In Ireland: Its terms say that if you live in the European Economic Area your contract is with MTCH Technology Services Limited at 10 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, and the app has an Irish App Store listing with prices in euro.

Our take

Tinder is the mainstream swipe app most people already know. It is free to use, with paid tiers such as Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold, both listed with euro prices on the Irish App Store. If you live in Ireland, or anywhere in the EEA, its terms say your contract is with MTCH Technology Services Limited in Dublin 2.

The terms say pricing varies with region, subscription length, past purchases and account activity, and that Tinder runs promotions and tests. The Irish App Store listing shows a selection of in-app prices in euro, but not the length of each subscription.

Tinder's help centre blocked our automated checks today, so the steps below come from its terms of use and the Irish App Store listing rather than the help pages.

Who runs it: MTCH Technology Services Limited (Dublin), according to Tinder's own terms.

Good for

  • People who want the widest mainstream pool and are open to casual or serious dating
  • Anyone who wants to try an app free before deciding whether to pay

Avoid if…

  • You want a service built only for casual or open relationships
  • You want one fixed price list: prices vary by account

Pros

  • Free to use, with paid tiers optional
  • Contracting company for Irish users is based in Dublin
  • Terms give EU subscribers a full refund within 14 days of a subscription starting
  • Euro prices visible on the Irish App Store

Cons

  • Prices vary by account, length and promotion
  • If you don't cancel in time, renewal is at the full price shown at purchase
  • Mixed intentions on a mainstream app: not everyone is looking for the same thing

Leaving Tinder

How you cancel Tinder depends on how you paid. Its terms say subscriptions bought through Apple or Google must be cancelled in that store, while subscriptions paid by card on the website or in the app are cancelled in the Account section. Either way, you keep access until the end of the current period.

Cooling-off and refunds: Tinder's terms say subscribers in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland are entitled to a full refund during the 14 days after the subscription begins. For Apple purchases, ask Apple; for other purchases, contact Tinder through its help centre. The terms add that virtual items, once delivered with your consent, can't be refunded.
