How a speed-dating night works
The format is the same almost everywhere. You arrive, the host checks you in and gives you a card or a number. Each date lasts a few minutes; when time is called, one side moves to the next table. At the end, or online the next day, you say who you'd like to meet again, and the organiser shares details only where both people said yes. Nobody sees a “no”.
That last point is why many people over 40 prefer it to apps: no endless messaging, no ghosting, and you know within a few minutes whether there's any spark in person.
Choosing your age band
- Bands are usually ten years wide (35-45, 40-50, 45-55, 55-65) and overlap, so you can often choose between two.
- Pick the band where most of the people you'd like to meet would be, not the one that matches your age to the year.
- Afternoon sessions, which some organisers run for 45-55, suit people who'd rather not be out late.
- Some sessions are for specific groups, such as LGBTQ+ women. The listing title says so.

Is there speed dating for over 50s or over 60s?
Yes. Some Dublin sessions are banded 55-65, and others run 45-55, often on weekend afternoons. Organisers add new dates regularly, so follow their pages if nothing suits right now.
What happens at a speed-dating night?
You chat with each person for a few minutes, then move on when the host calls time. Afterwards you say who you'd like to see again, and contact details are shared only where the interest is mutual.
Do I need to bring anything?
Usually just your booking confirmation; check the listing in case the organiser asks for anything else. Arrive ten minutes early so you're not rushing in late.
